LIFE OUT LOUD – Origin Story

On a high rock cliff above an idyllic valley in Germany sits a regal old stone castle — built long ago as a summer home and hunting lodge for a Duke. One particular room, called “the drinking parlor,” stopped us in our tracks. Richly adorned with wood and murals of festive celebrations and hunting scenes, it has long benches, simple tables styled like a medieval ale-house, and an emerald green stove tucked along the side. But the focal point is an elegant raised speaker’s platform, from which guests once regaled stories of the day and made toasts to friends seated below.

Standing in that room, imagining the laughter and stories once exchanged there, we felt something. It was the kind of connection we quietly yearn for in modern life, and we didn’t want to leave it behind in Germany.

The question took hold: What could bring that kind of humor and camaraderie into our modern lives,  into our own homes, with stories from today’s world? A storytelling card game. Real stories. Rapt listeners. Old-world spirit, new-world life.
